Travel Guides – Red Bluff man fined $1,580 after illegally shooting deer in a walnut orchard
The California Department of fish and Wildlife said Kaden Bodi Pearce, 23, of Red Bluff posted a photo of this buck on his Instagram account. The department said Pearce pleaded guilty to charges and was fined after he lied to officials about the location where he shot the deer.
A Red Bluff man has pleaded guilty to shooting a deer in a Tehama County walnut orchard, where he did not have permission to hunt, and then lying about it, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
After pleading guilty in Tehama County Superior County to poaching charges, Kaden Bodi Pearce, 23, was ordered to pay a $1,580 fine, forfeit the buck’s antlers and complete 40 hours of community service, a department official said.
Pearce also had his hunting privileges suspended for the duration of his one year of probation, according to the department.
The charges stemmed from an August 2020 investigation that began when a wildlife officer got a tip about possible poaching involving Pearce, according to fish and wildlife law enforcement Capt. Patrick Foy.
After shooting the deer, Pearce reported on his deer tag that he shot the buck on public land north of Red Bluff, Foy said in an email. When wildlife officers contacted Pearce, he also gave false information about where he shot the deer with a bow and arrow, Foy said.
However, officers obtained a search warrant of Pearce’s cell phone and ascertained the location where Pearce shot the buck by analyzing electronic evidence, he said.
“The evidence showed Pearce was trespassing in a local walnut orchard when he shot the buck,” Foy said.
Pearce pleaded guilty to hunter tresspass and falsifying a document on Oct. 27, he said.
