Popular Bondi pub referred to hotels regulator over Covid-19 outbreak

A popular Bondi Junction pub has been referred to the hotels regulator after at least 10 Covid-19 infections were linked to the venue.

The Tea Gardens Hotel has been linked to 10 confirmed cases who health officials believe attended while infectious or may have caught the virus there on October 23.

Anyone who visited the pub on that date from 7.30pm is considered a casual contact who must immediately get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

The South Eastern Sydney Local Health District said its public health unit had referred the hotel to the Office of Liquor and Gaming to review its compliance with Covid-19 safety measures.

The health district said health officials had individually contacted people who attended the venue at the times when an infectious person was there.

“Casual contacts should get tested, even if they have had a test recently. If you receive a negative result, please continue to monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms appear, get tested and isolate again,” the LHD said in a statement.

It is the second outbreak at an inner city venue since Greater Sydney reopened on October 11.

Earlier this week, the City Gym at Darlinghurst was named a Covid-19 exposure site, after 15 cases were linked to it.

NSW reported 268 new locally acquired cases on Friday, as well as two deaths.

The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 74,698.

Of the state’s population aged 16 or over, 93.4 per cent have had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine and 86.5 per cent have had two.
