The LiveLighter Narrogin Agricultural Show will return this month to celebrate its 115th year, after COVID forced its cancellation in 2020.
Running annually since 1901, the show has been a mainstay in Narrogin for well over a century and there are big plans for its return.
Narrogin Agricultural Society secretary Fran Shales said the impact of COVID meant extra protocols had to be followed for this year’s event.
“It’s been nerve-racking because of the reports of COVID being in NSW,” Ms Shales said. “And we’ve also had to really rework all our risk management to include all of the stringent COVID rules.”
Starting at 9am on October 16 and running all day at Clayton Road oval, the show is run by the NAS and sponsored by Lotterywest.
Rides, animals and a variety of stalls from community groups and exhibitors will be among the main attractions on the day. Entry is $5 for adults and $2 for under 18s.
This year’s show will be bee-themed, in recognition of the important role played by bees in agriculture.
Buzz Ed Australia will be giving two different talks on the day.
Ms Shales said that the show would have several new features while remaining true to its proud agricultural history.
“We have a ninja warrior obstacle course, and entertainment such as circus performers and stilt walkers,” she said.
“We’re having events in Alby Park that was opened at the front of the YMCA at the end of last year.
“We’re going to have a silent disco for the kids … we’ll have the Eco Faeries out on the oval, they’re going to be dressed up and doing activities with the kids for free.
“And we have blade shearing demonstrations in the ram shed.”
A fireworks show is scheduled for 7pm followed by live music from Perth rock cover band Masterplan.
