Bureau of Meteorology Meteorologist Jonathan How told Sunrise “50-100mm” of rain is expected is some parts from Tuesday and that falls are “going to last pretty much all week.”

Rain has already started to soak some parts of Queensland and New South Wales.
“For those in Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane, Thursday is going to be the start of a very wet 48-hours,” How explained.
“There is plenty of rain to come in very humid conditions.”
How warned the drenching could cause flooding in some inland communities.
Wet summer on the way
In bad news for sun lovers, the weather bureau is predicting that this week’s falls are “a taste of what’s to come”, with a La Niña weather event expected to be declared for the summer.
During La Niña years, the east to west trade winds blowing across the equatorial Pacific strengthen, pushing rain systems westwards.
“The good news is that for the first week of summer it is looking drier and warmer, certainly late next week we will see temperatures climbing into the 20s and even 30s,” How said.
“Unfortunately, the rest of summer is it looking quite wet and humid.”
Last year also included a La Niña, meaning this year could be the first back-to-back event since 2011-12.
